GO company has released electric scooter called e-BuBu for the Asian market. This is the first model of a two-device company with an electric motor.

BuBu based on the American electric scooter Genuine Buddy, is fitted to both wheels and disc brakes both front and rear.
Maximum speed - 60 km / h.

Removable lithium battery is located at the rear of the scooter under the seat.

Yamaha launches two new X-Max scooter models

Yamaha has unveiled two new X-Max scooters – with 250cc and 125cc engines.

The new X-Max’s have new rigid frames, increased storage capacity and a new dashboard design.  

They echo the groundbreaking 500cc TMAX scooter design, with one-piece construction of the front cowling, with a fixed instrument panel inspired by a luxury sports car.

They also have a new footboard position, designed for easier and more flexible riding on longer journeys.

Both the X-MAX 250 and X-MAX 125 offer easy ground access and are designed for two-up riding.

Storage is also key. The re-designed double seat conceals more than enough storage space to accommodate two full-face helmets. Up front, there is an enlarged lockable glove compartment around the knee area.

The new frame is suspended on twin rear shocks – with 4 adjustable positions - and long-travel telescopic forks. It has 15inch front and 14inch rear tyres and twin-piston 267mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes.

The X- MAX 250 is available in white, black, slate and silver.

The X-MAX 125 is available in four colour finishes: blue, white, slate and black.

Vectrix Files For Ch 11 Bankruptcy, Seeks October Auction

Vectrix Corp. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with a $5 million offer for its assets, subject to higher bids at an auction the electric scooter company wants to hold next month.

The New Bedford, Mass., company, is seeking an Oct. 29 auction, warning that it would "quickly run out of money" if a sale of its assets isn't closed quickly.

Investment and financial advisory firm GH Venture Partners LLC and a unit of battery maker Gold Peak Industries (Holdings) Ltd. have teamed up to offer the leading $5 million bid, which includes $1.75 million in cash and up to $3.3 million in liabilities.

The joint venture, through a company called New Vectrix LLC, is also offering Vectrix a $300,000 bankruptcy loan to help the company cover the costs of its bankruptcy and operations. Vectrix said the loan will help it ensure it can continue operating its business until a sale closes.

Vectrix is proposing to put most of its assets on the block, including the patents, trademarks and licenses associated with the high-performance, zero-emission electric scooters it designs and sells. Also up for grabs are the Vectrix's shares in its European subsidiary.

Under Vectrix's auction proposal, which is subject to bankruptcy court approval, New Vectrix is slated to receive a $125,000 break-up fee if its bid loses at auction.

The auction timeline calls for rival bidders to submit their offers by Oct. 27, exceeding New Vectrix's bid by at least $500,000.

The company is asking the bankruptcy court to consider signing off on the sale by Oct. 30.

Founded in 1996, Vectrix initially began developing the technology it uses in its scooters, relying on equity financing to fund those efforts. Commercial production began in 2007, but the company lost money on sales of its scooters and continued to rely on equity financing for working capital.

While Vectrix boosted its sales in 2008, it found itself facing "a significant lack of working capital" as the capital markets seized up and sales declined. For the rest of the year and into this year, Vectrix said banks were "reluctant" to fund an emerging company like itself, and financing for green technology companies "disappeared."

As the company sought a buyer or merger partner, it also engaged in such cost-cutting measures as laying off all but essential staff. The company also ceased making payments to its board of directors as of January and to its president and chief executive as of July.

In the Chapter 11 petition that Vectrix filed Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., the company reported assets and debts in the range of $10 million to $50 million.

Given its reliance on equity financing, Vectrix said it has little secured debt. The majority of its debt is unsecured, which Vectrix currently pegs at $26 million.

Vectrix's Chapter 11 proceeding, numbered 09-13347, has been assigned to Judge Kevin Gross.

BMW previews its vision of a safer city scooter with C1-E concept

Says BMW, "This is what a safe, environment-friendly and highly practical single track vehicle for city traffic could look like in the future." Well then, let's dissect that statement and see how BMW sought to accomplish these seemingly contradictory goals.

First, safety. Between 2000 and 2003, BMW offered a scooter in Europe called the C1. Though a marketplace failure, that machine may still be the safest two-wheeler ever offered. Featuring a fully-enclosed cabin with integrated rollover protection, a front-end impact zone, a rider seat belt and a low center of gravity, the C1-E has safety baked right in from the start. To that package, BMW adds electronic aids that include Integral ABS, Tire Pressure Control, Anti-Slip Control and Traction Control. So... safety? Check.

Environmentally-friendly? The scooter itself emits nothing – BMW borrowed the electric motor and control systems from electric scooter manufacturer Vectrix (which recently filed for bankruptcy). Vectrix's battery pack, though, has been swapped out with a high-tech lithium ion unit for greater energy storage. Alternatively, BMW could equip the same basic platform with any electric motor or small internal combustion engine of its choice. So, check.

Now, how about practicality? First, that enclosed rider cockpit means the C1-E could be used in nearly any kind of weather. Further, the bike features a large luggage compartment built-in behind the rider. As far as single-track vehicles go, this one's pretty darn practical. As much as we'd like to see the C1-E go into production, that's not currently in the cards. BMW built this concept as its contribution to the European eSUM safety project. Want to know more? 2010 Yamaha T-Max 750 Rumors

June 8th, 2009 - Imagine a new, better looking T-Max that puts out even more power than the current 500cc model. Rumors keep reemerging that Yamaha will introduce a new 3 cylinder T-Max with a displacement of 750cc. Apparently the T-Max 500 already has a dummy cylinder and rod that is currently used to counter balance engine vibration. It appears the plan is the utilize the extra cylinder and rod with a real piston to bump the displacement to 750cc. Although nothing has been officially announced by Yamaha, it seems like this would be a easy way to compete power-wise with the newest maxi supersport scooter to hit the market, the Gilera GP800.

If this model is getting ready to be launced for the 2010 year, expect an announcement from Yamaha sometime in the Fall of 2009. If the US does end up getting the T-Max 750, I would imagine that it won't arrive here until the 2011 or 2012 model year. En gammal modell har alltså blivit 3.000:- dyrare och den nya är totalt 7.000:- dyrare. Undrar hur de försvarar det.  >:(

Battery maker GP Batteries has bought New Vectrix and the Vectrix assets

As expected GP Batteries has purchased New Vectrix and certain Vectrix assets. As noted in earlier reporting (Vectrix is dead, long live the New Vectrix?) New Vectrix was formed by GH Ventures and GP Batteries. That earlier announcement described the intention that New Vectrix would buy the assets of Vectrix for a total purchase price of up to $5,056,000 (including cash payments and assumed liabilities), subject to an auction process and approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy court. GP Batteries have now announced the deal has been made. Following from the news last week from Hesketh Motors that they'd made an agreement to distribute and service Vectrix scooters (see: Is Hesketh Motors signaling the rebirth of Vectrix?) it appears the rebirth of Vectrix is underway.....mera

Vectrix Returning With Lithium

ONLY TWO MONTHS ago, Electric vehicle manufacturer Vectrix filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US, with plans to restructure and continue as New Vectrix.

According to a press release reportedly issued by China’s GoldPeak Batteries this month, Vectrix is preparing to return with a new Lithium Iron Phosphate-powered version of its VX1 electric bike.

GoldPeak is one of Vectrix’s original stakeholders. If the press release posted at the V is for Voltage website is to be believed, the Chinese battery manufacturer has acquired Vectrix’s assets and liabilities.

“This move is a triple win for customers, suppliers and for the employees. It provides the required stability to develop the key market and the right product,” the press release quotes Wolfgang Gohl, former Vice president for Operations and supposed new Vice President.

“The EV market is just starting to emerge, first policies are under development and Vectrix and his partners are in a prime position to supply a quality product for various applications.”

Future versions of Vectrix’s VX1 electric scooter will reportedly be powered by more powerful Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, replacing the previous model’s Nickel Metal Hydride cells.

Two smaller models are expected to arrive after 2010, delivering outputs equivalent to 50cc and 150cc petrol-powered scooters.

It remains to be seen whether the press release can be believed. Neither company has posted news of an acquisition on their websites or through the usual media channels.

The Motor Report has contacted GoldPeak and Vectrix in the US and will report further as more information comes.

ZEV comes out swinging: lays claim to world's fastest electric scooter,

American manufacturer ZEV has issued a fairly blunt challenge to other electric motorcycle manufacturers such as Vectrix, Zero Motorcycles and Brammo, by claiming to have the fastest and most powerful production electric scooter on the market in its US$7237 ZEV7000. "We tell them to bring their street legal production bike and to bring their betting money. There can be only one "fastest" street legal production electric motor scooter or bike in the world."

It's a big call to say your vehicle is the fastest on the market and call out your competitors like ZEV is doing - and it's an even bigger call when your bike's top speed is listed simply as "+113kmph/70mph."

For reference, when we test rode the impressive Vectrix electric scooter a couple of years back, that bike hit 110kmh fairly comfortably on the freeway too - despite the fact that it's only advertised to have a top speed of around 100.

Still, the ZEV7000 looks like a quality product, so we'll leave it to the competition to tackle or disprove any of ZEV's big claims and just take a look at the machine itself.

As its name suggests, the ZEV7000 puts out a continuous output of 7kW - with a peak output around 8kW and 14kW of standing start/launch power. Claimed peak torque, however, is a sky-high 184Nm, which would certainly help get it off the line with some gusto.

ZEV claims its secret recipe for massive torque is as simple as using large-diameter, multiphase motors, with a heavy emphasis on component cooling. Cooling the hub-mounted motor using an oil bath arrangement lets ZEV run a large motor at high speeds without the power sapping and motor-destroying effects of excess heat. The oil also helps ward off corrosion on the magnets - and this is part of the reason why ZEV offers a 2-year warranty on all its machines.

Range for the ZEV7000 is similar to the Vectrix at between 55 and 70 miles between charges, which take 25 minutes for a 75 percent top-up, or around 2 hours for a full charge. You can extend the vehicle's range or choose to access higher power by using what the company calls its "electronic transmission" - a switch that lets you choose how many amps the engine is running at. Low amps means low power but extended range, higher amps will drain the battery faster but give the bike substantially more beans.

Naturally, the ZEV7000 has also got a two-way throttle that can be rotated forward while on the move to engage regenerative engine braking and help get a bit more juice back into the battery.

One area in which the ZEV clearly stomps the Vectrix is in weight. Where the Vectrix comes in at a porky 200+kg, the ZEV tips the scales at a svelte 134kg. That's certainly going to give the ZEV a clear advantage on the dragstrip.

And the price tag is considerably leaner too, at US$7237 after tax credits to the Vectrix's RRP of around US$10,000 - although the Vectrix does bring with it a swag of top-shelf Italian braking and suspension componentry from Brembo and Marzocchi, as well as sexy looks that outclass the more utilitarian ZEV.

All in all, ZEV looks to be putting a fairly strong case forward as a commuter vehicle. The lithium battery should last upwards of 3000 full charge cycles, significantly more if you're putting it back on the charger without running it right down - so it should be good for upwards of 10 years of daily use with virtually no maintenance besides tires and fork oil.

And while there's lively arguments about exactly how clean and green your transport choice is if you're running it off fossil-generated mains power, there's simply no comeback when it comes to your daily energy costs: a zero-to-hero recharge will cost you about seven cents' worth of electricity.

Suzuki’s Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter becomes world’s first fuel-cell vehicle to earn European Whole Vehicle Type Approval,

Suzuki Motor Corporation is pleased to announce that the Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter has become the world’s first fuel-cell vehicle to earn Whole Vehicle Type Approval1 in the European Union.

The Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter debuted at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show in October 2009. Since February 2010, Suzuki and British company Intelligent Energy, which developed the Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter’s fuel-cell system, have been jointly participating in trials of the scooter on public roads under the aegis of the British government’s Technology Strategy Board2. The trials are being conducted in the area surrounding Loughborough University in central England using a single Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter unit. Multiple units are due to be added.

It was initially necessary to obtain Single Vehicle Approval for each Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter unit to be used in the trials. The newly obtained Whole Vehicle Type Approval (a pan-European endorsement reflecting recognition of the Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter’s high levels of environmental performance and safety) means that Single Vehicle Approval is no longer necessary.

The Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter is based on Suzuki’s city-friendly Burgman. It incorporates a light, compact, air-cooled fuel cell and a hydrogen tank that’s positioned inside the frame. Electricity produced by the fuel cell powers a motor for propulsion; the only emission is water. Suzuki is working toward commercializing the Burgman Fuel-Cell Scooter as a motorcycle with superior environmental performance. Suzuki aims to make eco-friendly fuel-cell scooters increasingly common in Europe in line with the establishment of hydrogen filling stations and other necessary infrastructure.
